NT Tests OneWeb Low Earth Orbit Satellite Performance in Support of Thai Red Cross Mission to Enhance Disaster Relief and Emergency Communications

National Telecom Public Company Limited (NT) has provided support for OneWeb low earth orbit satellite internet services to the Relief and Community Health Bureau of the Thai Red Cross Society during the National Crisis Management Exercise (C-MEX 25) held on June 26-27, 2025, in Satun Province, Thailand.

NT received authorization from the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) on May 27, 2024, to use the OneWeb low earth orbit satellite network to provide services in Thailand. NT is currently preparing to launch OneWeb low earth orbit satellite internet services within the third quarter of 2025.

NT deployed high-speed low earth orbit satellite technology with “on the move” capabilities, testing its performance through the LEO Satellite Mobility Vehicle (LEO SMV) to evaluate real-world field operations. This technology supports ground communications in remote areas or situations where primary communication networks are unavailable.

Throughout the journey from Bangkok to Satun Province, NT continuously conducted OneWeb low earth orbit satellite signal quality tests at regional NT service offices to demonstrate the potential and capabilities of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite technology, which can support high-speed internet usage even while in motion and in areas without terrestrial network infrastructure.

This support for the Thai Red Cross mission marks the first test of OneWeb low earth orbit satellite internet in Thailand. The system will serve as a backup network during the exercise, efficiently supporting emergency communication missions and enhancing crisis management capabilities to respond promptly to incidents without geographical limitations.

NT remains committed to developing communication technologies to strengthen security and enhance disaster relief communication systems during crisis and emergency situations, while continuing to support missions that benefit society and the nation.
